Linux Forensics

February 28, 2008

I was doing some forensics at work today and thought I would share the process of making an image in Linux for anyone else that is interested. The first, and most important, item to address in our process is the fact that we are using write blockers in the acquisition. It is true that Linux can do this natively by mounting the drives read-only, but I prefer to stay on the safe side. The write blocking kit we use is by Digital Intelligence and is a very easy to use system.

Kitchen Pendant Lights

February 27, 2008

The pendant lights for the kitchen came today. Amazingly enough Home Depot had them here in two days with only an extra $10 in expedited shipping charges. This is one of the few things I picked out on my own and even though they look a little radical in color from the photo on the box, I can assure you the display models I saw in the store were much more toned-down. The design is actually a deeper red with darker bubbled patterns. Better pictures to come after the developer actually gets them put in…

*fingers crossed* that they match the rest of the place and don’t stick out too much once they are actually installed…

BlackHat USA/Defcon 2008

February 26, 2008

My company has approved my training request for this years BlackHat and Defcon security conference August 2-10th’ish. This will be my third trip to BH/Defcon and my “I-stopped-counting-awhile-ago” trip to Las Vegas. Previous training included the reverse engineering class with Halvar Flake and the IDA Pro class with Chris Eagle. Both were very knowledgeable and covered a huge amount of information in a very short timespan (2 days).

Closing Date

February 23, 2008

The closing date on the condo is looking like it is going to be March 28th. The construction should be done by March 15th and the unit I’m in currently will be rented out April 1st, so I definitely have to be out by then. This should give the developer time to finish everything, me time to move over that weekend and most importantly - avoid the transfer tax increase… I’m excited to get settled into something I can call my own again, but still trying to not think about it until I have the keys in my hand. :)
